The trail of the Eastern Front of the First World War leads through the area of eight voivodships - Lesser Poland, Świętokrzyskie, Łódź, Masovian, Warmian-Masurian, Subcarpathian, Lublin and Podlaskie. It covers former battlefields, remains of fortifications or cemeteries associated with the Great War. The Lublin section of the trail begins in the south of the Voivodeship - near Bełżec, while its final fragment is located near the village of Konstantynów in the Biała Podlaska county. The route runs through the Tomaszów, Biłgoraj, Kraśnik, Opole Lubelskie, Lublin, Lubartów, Radzyń Podlaski, and Biała Podlaska counties. Its total length is about 400 km. The trail has been marked with signs to help locate its main points.

In the years 1914–1915 the Lublin region was the stage of the then European superpowers struggles, where political visions and powerful ambitions clashed with each other. The first military operations of the First World War in the current Lublin Voivodeship began in the second half of August 1914. One of the most important battles of this period was the battle of Kraśnik, a clash between the Austro-Hungarian army and the Russian, in which the Austro-Hungarian army won. In the following months, the scales of victory tilted once and again, and the severity of the fights is evidenced by the remaining numerous war cemeteries and graves included in the course of the Trail of the Eastern Front of the First World War. Intensive warfare in the Lublin region ended with the retreat of the Tsarist troops to the east at the end of August 1915.

While on a tour along the Eastern Front trail we will see battlefields, remains of fortifications as well as graves and cemeteries, including the war cemetery in Niedrzwica Duża or the Polish Legionaries Cemetery in Jastków, which was established immediately after the Battle of Jastków (3 August 1915).
