A town in the Southern Podlasie Lowland founded in 1369, a historic capital of the Łuków Land. The most interesting historic sights are the 18th-century Baroque churches and monasteries of the Bernardine Order and of the Piarist Order.
Some of the church buildings have been given to the Regional Museum and host ethnographic collections of art and crafts (including folk sculptures by artists associated in the acclaimed Łuków Sculpture Centre) and geological and archaeological exhibits e.g. Jurassic ammonites found in the nearby 'Kra Jurajska’ reserve. Another attraction of Łuków is the Zimna Woda Reservoir with recreational facilities.
