The Janowskie Forests is the vastest forest complex in Poland, especially appreciated for the opportunity to experience the closeness of nature, possibility of observating animals and birds, as well as the distance from the noise of civilization. The most visited places include the Imielty Ług reserve and Porytowe Hill, a place of the largest guerrilla battle of World War II, the nearby Szklarnia reserve near Janów Lubelski, where the Biłgoraj pony refuge was created, and the Arboretum, which is an attractive place for those practicing Nordic walking, jogging or ordinary walkers.
It is good to start a visit to the Janowskie Forests from Zoom Natury, a huge educational and recreational complex located by the reservoir. A beautiful, sandy beach, walking alleys, fountains, bicycle paths, outdoor gyms, an attractive rope park, observation tower, and modern educational laboratories provide an incentive to discover the surrounding nature.
The city of Janów Lubelski, adjacent directly to the Janów Forests, is also noteworthy, particularly for its Marian sanctuary founded by the Zamoyski family with the Dominican church and monastery from 1694-1720, the Forest Railway Open-Air Museum and one of the first monuments of Tadeusz Kościuszko built in 1818.
