It's worth to take a look at the world of nature. Great places to observe it are the National Parks, that protect the most valuable natural areas. There are two of them in the Lublin Voivodeship - Poleski and Roztoczański. Learn what you can see there and how to plan your trip. To begin with, we invite you to the land of swamps and wild forests. Ladies and Gentlemen, here's the Poleski National Park.
Undeniable king of the swamps of Polesie is the moose, one of the largest mammals in Poland. In the Poleski National Park live around 100 houndred specimens, which constitutes to one of the largest aggregations of this majestic animal in Poland. The Park is also a real paradise for birdwatchers. Equipped with binoculars we can discover the amazing bird realm. Over 200 species of birds live here, some of them, like the aquatic warbler, are very rare and endangered with extinction. The crane deserves special attention, as it's depicted in the park's coat of arms, and the characteristic sound they make can be often heard during the strolls. The park is also a place when we can spot the white-tailed eagle, a bird with the largest wingspan in Poland. An important representant of the Polesie's fauna is the European pond turtle - included in the Polish Red List of Threatened Species.
The distance between Lublin to Urszulin is less than 60 km. The Educational and Administrative Centre, is located there and it's a perfect place where it's the best to start a trip. We will find the information centre there, and buy tickets to particular nature paths. In the Centre we will also find the Educational Garden, as well as a mini-path "Following Nature".
Another great place to begin your adventure at the Poleski National Park is Stare Załucze, where the Educational – Museum Centre is located. Local museum presents archeological, etnographical, historical, and natural exhibits. We will also find the Information Centre here, where we will get all the necessary information and buy tickets. Situated in the area of the Centre is the "Little Turtle" path, prepared especially for the youngest explorers of the Park. Thanks to it the children can learn about the structure of the forest, make friends with the European pond turtle, and visit a small Rehabilitation Centre for Animals.
Kilometers of nature paths traced in the park, with their wooden footbridges and viewing points that enable having a closer look at nature.
"Dominik Oak" trail
A walk on the "Dominik Oak" trail is a perfect opportunity to observe the nature of Polesie, starting with the forest ekosystems to the dystrophic Moszne Lake. A peculiar element of the trail is a transitory turf land generated on a quagmire called in here “splea”. We will see various types of forests. It's worth to pay attention to blooming orchis flowers and carnivorous sundews. Before starting the trip you should visit Urszulin and Załucze Stare to buy the tickets. Start your walk from the car park located at the edge of the forest,near the crossroads of the roads from the villages of Jamniki, Wola Wereszyńska and Łomnica. "Spławy" trail
Poleski National Park in a nutshell. While walking on the wooden footbridges we will see sub-boreal swamps, meadows, and turf lands. This way we will reach the Łukie lake, the biggest waterbody of the park. The beginning of the trail is located in Załucze Stare, by the Museum. Here you can park your car and buy the admission tickets. The stroll should take you about three hours - the full length of the trails is about 7,5 km, about 4,5 km of which leads on the wooden footbridges. Learn more...
"Perehod" trail
A true a real paradise for birdwatchers. The trail is located among the ponds of Pieszowola. There are many species of water and marsh birds, such as cormorants, herons, and bitterns. With some luck, you can also spot a hunting white-tailed eagle. For the fans of birdwatching there are two viewing towers and an ornithological shelter. The start of the trail is located in Pieszowola, south-east from Sosnowica. The lenght of the trail, which is also available for the cyclists, is 5 km. Learn more...
"Insurgent Camp" history and nature trail
A perfect trail for the fans of history and nature. The trail acquaints the tourists with the subject of the January insurrection, because here, near Lipniak, the biggest camp of the insurgents was located. Thanks to the educational boards we can learn more about the camp and the uprising itself. Let's remember that we are in the National Park, so it's good to look around carefully - the nature delights with every step. The beginning of the trail is located in the village of Lipniak. The trail is about 4 km long and leads through the forest paths and wooden footbridges. "Czahary" trail
"Czahary" trail, established within the "Bagno Bubnów" area, awaits the tourists and fans of nature. The term "czahary" was known back in the XVII century and described a wetland covered with shrubs. The name of the trail fits the character of the newest Polesie path perfectly. The trail of 6,5 km leads through the open fen, as well as through the forests and meadows. The trail is particularly popular around the fans of ornitology. Many interesting bird species can be spotted here, including one of the rarest migrating bird in Europe - the Aquatic Warbler. Due to the biodiversity of this land the visitors can meet many representants of the local fauna and flora - including a moose and a deer. "Czahary" trail is available for the disabled. "Mietiułka" biking and nature trail
Let's hop on the bikes and admire the beauty of Polesie's nature. The trail is 21 km long. It begins in the village of Łowiszow, and a high turf land “Durne Swamp” with a viewing tower is located by the lane. The path creates a loop running through the complex of ponds in Pieszowola, and then goes along the Mietulka River up to the point of departure. Learn more...

* Tourist Information Point in Urszulin is open every day between 8 AM and 8 PM in the summer season (1 April - 31 October). In the winter season it is open from Monday to Friday between 7 AM and 3 PM. Another Tourist Information Point of the Poleski National Park is located in Stare Załucze. It's open everyday between 8 AM and 4 PM.
